Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2018 Reveals "Anime of the Year" Winners


The Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2018, an international film festival sponsored by the Japan Video Association and co-hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government that seeks to recognize excellence in Japanese animation, has announced the winners for its “Anime of the Year” awards. The awards are arranged into 3 categories: Work Awards, Individual Awards, and the Anime Fan Prize.



Work Awards:

Grand Prize:

  • Theatrical animation: In This Corner of the World
  • TV animation: Kemono Friends


Individual Awards:

  • Original work and screen play: Kinoko Nasu
  • Director and production: Tatsuki
  • Animator: Takahiro Kishida
  • Art, color, and image: Nobutaka Yoda
  • Sound and audio performance: Yuki Kajiura


Anime Fan Prize: Yuri!!! on ICE



To determine the winners of the “Anime of the Year” awards, a popular vote by anime fans was held for 539 works of film and TV animation that were screened or broadcast between the period of October 16, 2016 – October 14, 2017. From the results of this vote, the top 10 films and top 90 TV anime were selected for review by a panel of industry professionals (animators, producers, store owners, etc.), who cast the final votes for the various prizes.



The Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2018 will be held from March 09 – 12, 2018, at venues in Ikebukuro, Toshima Ward, Tokyo, Japan.
